The underground pipes

Postby Rings » Sat Apr 03, 2010 5:21 pm

This last gather, we were attacked by large piles of goo. Relatively harmless, but they still posed an ineresting question. Where did they come from? After gathering a few individuals together, we set out following the trail of slime to a grate in the ground. After a few more came out to attack us, we managed to seal the grate. Shortly after, they began to come out of the outside drains around the back of the tavern. This is just a theory, but could something be living in the drainage pipes, and blocking the flow of waste? I feel if this issue is not resolved soon, we may be up to our necks in... waste from these drains. I for one do not wish to find out what these slimey creatures are made of, but I would not be surprised if they began attacking out of the latrines next.

Anyone with the knowlege of the drainage systems in place, would you please provide a little more insight into these matters? It is not only a security issue, it is a sanitary problem and soon these slime creatures will be spreading disease and toxic poisons.

The sewers of Hassenbrook have seen various things in them from time to time. Most recently it was a plant creature, but we've also seen rats and roaches. This state of affairs is not, sadly, unusual in these parts. In general, whatever critters have been living in the sewers have not prevented them from functioning in their design capacity, however. I didn't see any evidence that the slimes that came out of them this last gather were causing problems with the latrines, and the tavern drains were operating normally.

However, if you wish to investigate further, it's not hard to get into the sewers. Just make sure you're prepared to burn whatever clothes you wear down there when you go exploring.

Also be aware that you might find worse than slime in the sewers.

You never know what you'll find. All sorts of things that hate sunlight will shelter in sewers and catacombs. In my time I have stumbled across much worse things than a few animals, blobs of slime, or mutated creatures. There are enough hostile entities in the world that there will not always a deeper meaning for something popping up and trying to eat you. For many creatures, you are a tasty meal or entertainment, and that is motivation enough.

If you can convince others that it is a problem worth checking out as a group, fine. However, I would let it go if no one wants to go with you. Trying to investigate alone would be blatantly stupid on several levels.
